Demand Factor Formula Calculations and Solved Examples

The demand factor is defined as the ratio of maximum demand on the power station to the connected load.

Formula of Demand Factor

Demand Factor = Maximum Demand/Connected Load

Practically the value of maximum demand is smaller than connected load, and thus the demand factor is always less than 1.

Solved Examples and Calculations

Example#1: Calculate the demand factor when the maximum demand of 5 kW connected load is 3.8 kW.

Demand factor = 3.8/5 = 0.76

Example#2: If maximum demand is 84 kW and the connected load is 100 kW, what is the value of the demand factor.

Demand factor = 84/100 = 0.84
